THE DESCRIPTION OF NURSE’S KNOWLEDEGE LEVEL ABOUT

INTERPRETING THE BASIC ECG IN ER, ICU AND IMC

OF PKU MUHAMMADIYAH HOSPITAL

YOGYAKARTA ON 2009¹

ABSTRACT

ECG has important role as the simple equipment to diagnose heart attack. The nurse who performs the ECG recording to the patients soon will know the existence of heart disorder, and therefore the nurse’s ability in interpreting the ECG is urgently needed to decide tquickest action to do especially the dangerous heart attack. The quick performance in handling the patients with heart attack will significantly decrease the death amount caused by this disease.

Generally, purpose of this research is to descriptive the level of nurse’s knowledge in interpreting the basic ECG in ER, ICU and IMC of PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital Yogyakarta. This research uses the method of non-experimental descriptive, by using the cross sectional time approach. The subject in this research is all the nurses working in ER, ICU and IMC of PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital Yogyakartaas much as 46 nurses. The method of sample collecting this research is total sampling. The technique of data collecting is personally held by using the questionnaire of question list

The research uses the analysis of univariat data resulting the distribution and percentage from the variable. The result of data analyzing is then posted into the score criterion of good, enough, less and bad.

The result of the research can give the discription of the level of nurse’s knowledge about interpreting the basic ECG in ER, most of the level of nurse’s knowledge in ER is sufficient as much as 63,16%. The most of nurse in ICU has a good level of knowledge as much as 85,71%, and the most of nurse in IMC has a good level of knowledge as much as 46,26%.

The researcher gives some suggestions to the staff nurses of ER, ICU and IMC to keep increasing and surviving the kowledge about the interpreting of ECG. For the training and education section to keep holding the refreshing of ECG, and for the next reseacher to keep examining the factors influencing the level of nurse’s knowledge in interpreting the basic ECG and not only be limited to nurses of ER, ICU and IMC.
